After the demolition of the old shelter home, Hyderabad Municipal Corporation built a new facility on top of the existing building in front of the GH outpatient department. They leased the space to Janahitha Seva Trust, our partner, who were running the program before.
Janahitha requested our help in furnishing the place. We provided them $12,000.
Janahitha is very active in garnering local support. A patron donated some land in Thimmayapally close to the ring road. Others donated funds for constructing a building. Part of that building is converted to a kitchen and we provided $36,000 to furnish an industrial scale kitchen. This reduced the cost of the meals program substantially.
The Bank of Baroda donated an electric tri-wheeler to carry food from the kitchen to the shelter.
All these developments and the local support is allowing Janahitha to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to the shelter residents. At present, we are responsible for only 75% of the lunch costs. If enough donors come forward it will be nice if we can cover the lunch costs fully.
Our goal now is to raise enough corpus funds, the investment income from that will cover our portion of the expenses forever.
